Welcome Author Kathleen Gerard

Meet Kathleen Gerard, author of IN TRANSIT, a novel of Romantic Suspense
About the novel: Rita Del Vecchio is a naive, 20-something waitress living in New Jersey who, on a whim, takes the NYPD police exam - and actually passes the test. The story is about the men who cross Rita's path once she is assigned to the NYPD Transit Police Squad. Travel with Rita as she becomes a "woman-in-jeopardy" and learns that some people hold secrets as dark and as labyrinth-like as the New York City Subway System.
Kathleen Gerard writes across genres. Her work has appeared in magazines, anthologies and has been broadcast on NPR (National Public Radio). Her short fiction has been awarded many literary prizes and awards.
Tell us your latest news?
IN TRANSIT recently won The New York Book Festival 2011 - "Best Romantic Fiction" category
Can you remember the first novel you ever read?
Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing by Judy Blume (I don't know if it's the first book I read, but I do remember it as the first book I really enjoyed reading - the story made me laugh.)
What book(s) changed your life?
The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger. The voice of the main character, Holden Caulfield, kept me riveted to the page. It was the book that made me really want to be a writer.
Where do you write best?
At home, at a desk facing the wall. I get too distracted if I look out the window.
Who would you like to be stuck with in an elevator?
Jesus Christ; second choice Matthew McConaughey
Who would you choose to play you in a film?
What is your favorite romance novel?
What are you scared of?
Spiders
How do you relax?
With a glass of red wine, at 5 pm daily
As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
A photojournalist. I loved how pictures could capture moments that could often reveal stories.
What is your favorite breakfast food?
Pizza
What is the best piece of advice a parent ever gave you?
Do your very best. Have faith and put your trust in God.
If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you live?
Right where I live now
What book have you faked reading?
Moby Dick - I tried, but the length of the book alone daunted me.
What does it mean to you to be a writer?
It means being a good listener and paying attention.  It means writing every day as a means to hone your craft and become a better storyteller. It means feeling grateful when people read your work, as that is a great and rare privilege.

Thanks Brynna for hosting Kathleen on her blog tour. We appreciate your support of "In Transit."

What a great interview! I love the humor - Matthew McConaughey only taking a second place to Jesus and I love the honesty - "[Being a writer] means feeling grateful when people read your work, as that is a great and rare privilege."
