Welcome Author Krista Kedrick

1)  Where do you hail from and what do you love most about your hometown?

            A.  I am from Ogallala Nebraska population 4,737.  It’s a small town with a really big lake that draws tourists from all over as well as the locals to play and fish.  There are too many things to list that I love about Ogallala so I’ll just say it’s the people.  They are a friendly, wholesome bunch who think of everyone as family.  It’s nice to know the people you meet on the street, the children who attend the schools with your children, etc.  I like it so much I moved back after college and now raise my own family here.

2)  As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?  How has that childhood dream affected your career?

            A.  There were so many things that I wanted to be it would take 10 lifetimes to achieve them all.  I have so many interests, so many ambitions that I could never settle on just one.  That’s what makes the writing career so awesome for a girl like me.  I can be anyone I want to be and I’m sure that the imagined version is much better than the real thing.

3)  Tell us about your latest book.  Do you have anything new in the works and can you tell us a bit about it?

            A.  My book is entitled Under a Prairie Moon which is a contemporary western romance that takes place in Nebraska between a ranch in the Sandhills and the city of Lincoln.  It’s about a photographer who returns to her hometown for her cousin’s wedding.  She wakes up in the arms of the handsome best man, who also happens to be her ex-boyfriend’s kid brother.  She sneaks out knowing she will never see him again.  But something happens that will alter both their lives and bring them back together only to tear them apart again.  Love and life bring them a happiness that only happens under the magic of a prairie moon.
My next book is entitled Family Ties and is scheduled to be out on March. 26th.  It is about a P.R. manager from California suddenly inherits his two nieces he barely knows and a ranch he’s never seen in Nebraska where he tangles with a no-nonsense, overprotective handy woman/cowgirl.

4)  Do you ever suffer from writer’s block?  If so, what do you do about it?

            A.  I wouldn’t really call it writer’s block, but there are times when I wonder where to go from here.  What path will they take, what path do they need to take, to get to where I want them.  Does the couple need to have a fight do they need to face a challenge, an ultimatum.  I find that a really good outline of my scenes helps but sometimes even that doesn’t work, so I leave my office and do something that takes my mind completely off of it like take the kids to the park or the lake.  Doing something physical I find is the key to unclogging my mind.  Because all of a sudden it just falls into my head and I see the scene happening.

5)  What advise would you give to writer’s just starting out?

            A. That it can be a long, bumpy, twisted ride where sometimes you feel like you are carrying the donkey on your back instead of the other way around and you are constantly walking in circles saying to yourself  “doesn’t that tree look familiar?”.  But if you trudge on and keep reading and keep writing and take any advise you get with the grain of salt believing in yourself, the rewards are amazing and hearing “Wow, what a story!  I loved it!” for the first time, will make the journey worth the effort.

Thank you so much for having me here, I thoroughly loved these questions and enjoyed answering them.

Under a Prairie Moon

Blurb:  Lincoln photographer Andrea Jameson finds passion and much more in the arms of a young cowboy, who just happens to be the brother of her traitorous ex-boyfriend.  Will they accept the life changing journey and realize the love they captured one night, under a praire moon?  Or will doubt and circumstance drive them apart?

Krista was born and raised in Nebraska.  Her first years were spent on a ranch near the Stinkin' Water Creek in Chase County with her family raising cattle, lambs and chickens and stirring up trouble.  After spending several childhood years in Colorado and Kansas her family returned to make Nebraska their home.

She graduating from high school in 1998 she went on to Northeastern Junior College where she played volleyball and earned a degree in Horticulture.

Second only to volleyball is her love of plants and the outdoors. She is forever working in her yard, which explains her vivid descriptions of settings in her novels.

She has many interests, enjoys many activities, and finds it almost impossible to remain idle for more than an hour.  Krista has tried her hat at a wide range of occupations from landscaper to pet store owner, not to mention several in-home businesses, but continued to pursue writing during all those years, taking courses, writing whenever possible and researching topics and the business.
It has been Krista's ambition to become a published author since her freshman year of high school when a literature class changed how she looked at writing.  She discovered it could be more than an outlet for feelings or simply a hobby.

She married her high-school sweetheart in 2000. He has been a wealth of information for her western/agriculture style novels.  And living in small communities has given her the inside view of small town people -their wholesomeness, kindness and appreciation of the little things in life.  These one-of-a-kind people are the heart of her characters.

Her  light-hearted take on the world splashes the pages of her novel creating a wonderful mix of seriousness and humor.
Krista makes her home in Nebraska with her husband, two daughters and basset hound.
Her debut novel Under a Prairie Moon by Krista Kedrick is available in both paperback and ebook on www.createspace.com,www.amazon.com, www.smashwords.comand for the nook at www.barnesandnoble.com.
